Cyber Monday

Well, I wasn't quite sure how Cyber Monday would play out.  I mean all the big box store were having all kinds of sales!  Little old me didn't even think about it, to busy thinking about getting some late Christmas sales.  Well not next year!  I will be thinking about Cyber Monday well in advance!  With not promoting I had 6 sales on Monday.  Yes they were all to one person, but not another Zibbeter.  Makes me happy to know that she came into Zibbet, found my shop, and chose to buy some great, fun earrings at an awesome price.  Thank you Sandi!  I hope to see her again in the shop.  Now I know that there really are shoppers out there on Cyber Monday and I need to spend some time getting to them.  Now I just need a little better planning for the holidays and be prepared for an awesome 2011!

Holiday pretzel treat

OK just so every ones knows...I am not a baker or for that matter even a cook.  My husband does most if not all the cooking at our house, I can use the crock pot and have gotten quite good at it.
When the Christmas season starts to get closer my boys want me to make them something special, they don't care their mom can't cook.  So I make them a simple fun pretzel treat, not sure were I saw it but sooo easy I make it every year.  For some reason only for Christmas, not sure why?.
So yummy I can't even tell you!

Bite size waffle shaped pretzels
Hershey kisses
M&M candies
  Step 1
    oven 170
line cookie sheet with parchment or wax paper
Unwrap kisses and place on top of pretzels...as many as you can fit on cookie sheet.
I used all the kisses in a bag to make as many as possible, all fit on the cookie sheet.
  Step 2
Bake for 4 to 6 minutes, until kisses soft
Remove and press M&Ms into the center of kisses
  Step 3
Put in frig and allow to cool
    EAT

Something New

I thought it was time to add something new and a little different (for me) to my shop. I found this awesome belt at a trift store and it was calling to me. I knew I could do something cool with it, but what? Then when I was in Hobby Lobby the other day I saw these snaps for working with leather. Light Bulb moment!!! I cut the belt up into 4 seven inch cuffs and went to work in the garage. I keep one for myself and the rest I listed http://www.zibbet.com/lucysbeadstudio in my shop.

Hope you all enjoy them as much as I did making them.

Cabinet pictures :)

The top did have contact paper on it and this was what was under. Must have been used as a stove in a girls room or something. Stained and drying
Set up in its new home. Hubby happy :)

New Cabinet

I thought that today on this lovely holiday I would share with you all another one of my passions. I love to find old furniture, something someone no longer wants, and give it new life in my home. Well this 'passion' as some draw backs...there is only so much room to put new stuff, LOL. I have bunk bed ladders that I use to hang my quilts on, a small farm house piece that a friend gave me, and my favorite is my dinning room table and chairs. I pick up the table and 2 chairs at a thrift store and ( after many coats of ploy....one I had to re sand because I left the light on and it was covered with bug, yes funny now no so much then ) I redid it with a natural top and black legs.
But what I really wanted to share today was my small cabinet in the computer room. I picked up this piece at a local thrift store, one of my favorite places, and it was crying out for help!! I was using a wooden crate for the printer in the computer room, worked for me....not so much for my hubby! He told me that if I didn't fix it he would, which meant bring back that monster of a computer desk that I hated. So off I went and came home with this little cabinet and he just rolled his eyes. :) Well at least the crate was gone and the cabinet worked out great! Enjoy the before and after pictures. Well the pictures are in the above post, won't let me add pictures now that I have already written everything.

Enjoy and have a Wonderful Labor Day

Tuesday, August 24, 2010

Hello, sorry I haven't been around in awhile but school has started here and we all know how busy the first weeks before school starts are!!!
As you can see from my pictures, that are not in the order that I wanted them (oh well), we had a very large tree (dead) removed. My husband says it didn't even deserve the 'a' in dead! :) It was just 'ded', good old southern boy for you.
The tree was about 5 feet from the house and I couldn't even put my arms around it. I was starting to get conserned that it would fall on the house, right were the boys room is and that just wasn't working for me. Almost cleaned up, boy those logs were heavy. Or so I was told. ;)

What a mess!
As you can see the tree took out a pine on its way down and got hung up on it. The tree guy said in 28 yrs of tree work he had never seen a tree land that way. It is just balancing on the pine tree like a great big tetter totter. My husband says he is sooo glad I wasn't there when the tree came down, but I did get to see the results. Thank goodness the neighbor's house wasn't hit!!!

This picture really shows the dead tree and the pine, you can see the neighbor's house through the woods. The boys, husband and friend, have gotten all of the tree off their property and are working on cutting wood for the fire place. Can't wait for the colder weather, I love a good fire!
Don't forget when you get a chance I'm still having a sale on Zibbet so come on by. http://www.zibbet.com/lucysbeadstudio

Happy 4th

As some of you already know...we found 2 turtles in our yard the other day. Seems like we have had alot of wildlife in the yard this year and the boys love it!
I was sitting down to lunch and the crazy dog would just not stop barking! Finally having enough I went to see what the problem was...another dog, cat , WHAT? Two turtles becoming friends in the yard ;) I went and and got the boys and we all went to check them out, minus dog. Brought them up on the deck, one must have been picked up many time before because it was not scared of us. It took off as soon as we put him down and the other hung out for a couple of hours before finally making the trip down the hill, but not before the boys had to give it some leaves.there he goes
The second turtle was in the same place for at least 3 hours.

I'm not scared of you!!!
(I think they are Eastern Box Turtles.)

They sure did have pretty markings. The boys put a dot of pink nail polish on the top of each shell. That way if we see them again we know we have already caught them in the yard. There are at least 4 maybe 5 turtles living close to the house.
We have now caught and released...frogs, toads, lizards, a snake, and 2 turtles so far this year! Can't wait to see what else the boys will find! :)

4th of July

OK, so it has been alot longer that I thought since I was last here! Can't believe the month of June is but a memory. With the boys out of school and an early vacation last month just ran away from me, I don't think it even looked back to see if I was still there!
I have been adding some new hemp jewelry to my ZIBBET shop and have been having fun with that! There is just something about summertime that inspires me to make more hemp jewelry. Might be because all I need is an idea, beads (or not) and some hemp...not alot of tools required except the ones I always have with me! My hands :)
I thought that I would throw a couple of Americana inspired earrings, http://www.zibbet.com/lucysbeadstudio , I know shameless self promotion. In theme with the blog name and this very special American holiday!
I do have some things coming up that I will share with you all soon. School for my boys will be starting back in August, so that will take some of my time. I am also going to be in a craft fair in September and I have to get started working on stuff of that. My mom is going to join me and bring her wonderful quilts. I have been trying to get her to open an ETSY shop of her own, maybe this year will be the year.

I hope that you all have a wonderful and joyful 4th of July weekend!

The Yard

All the feedback I got from my last post of flowers I thought I would share some more. For some reason, known only to Goggle Blogger, the pictures are not in the order that I downloaded?! The first is the blueberry bush in our yard. We , meaning me and my youngest son, have been enjoying the blueberries for a couple of years. The thing is I have NO idea were the plant came from! I know I didn't plant it and my husband and I had been in the house for years before it showed up. But those blueberries sure do taste good! Can't wait until July!

I have a lot of containers, love them, and with 2 boys, easy to take care of. I love the containers on the fence with the pink begonias. To the left are mini roses, yellow, but hard to tell in the picture.

Above more daylillies, I have more pictures to add. Pretty pretty pretty. I just love daylillies and boy are they getting ready to explode!
The pictures of all the trees is a yard picture. A lot of shade in my yard....keeps my husband's mowing down! LOL When the boys were smaller we thought about moving...finding a yard that would be more fun for the boys, meaning flat. But now that they are older the hillside and all the trees are an adventure waiting to happen each day!
What I didn't capture in the picture is the new 16x16 flat spot that my husband had made for the trampoline. Right now that is still a work in progress and with all the rain we have had it's a mud pit (another boy adventure!) That is a post for another day, not only do I have pictures but video too!
Hope you enjoy the trip into my yard, more pictures to come! :)

Oh Monday Flowers

Here are some pictures of the 1st DayLillies to bloom in my yard this Summer. All yellows but I know there are more colors to come and that is very exciting. I can't wait for the plants that are full of blooms to just open up and show off!
My husband says I have to many...I don't think that is possible. I have them planted everywhere...pots, by the mail box, next to the driveway, hillside..to and bottom. If there is a spot and a little bit of sun then I'm planting a daylilly. I will admit that I do look lovingly at flower catalogs that come in the mail. I don't order anymore, :( , but I can still dream. I have sooo many that all I have to do anymore is split them. Last year I shared some with the neighborhood pool and they look great down there. I get to see them everywhere! :0)
Hope you enjoy the pictures and I will keep you all up to date on the many colors blooming into my yard.

LOve my Daylillies!

Saturday

Ahhh, Saturday I love Saturday. After a long week, last week of school for my boys here down south! My lovely husband told me to go out and enjoy the day, love that man! So I thought I would stop at Target, love Target, and them head over to the bead store. Not something I can do with the boys, trip always starts good but not even 5 minutes in I hear "I'm bored!" Not a fun trip, much better alone. As I was headed in that direction I saw the looming movie theater billboard! So, on a whim I decied to see what time Robin Hood started and as fate would have it...it started at 12:30, it was 12:20. So I said "What the H... no-one whats to go with me I'll go alone!" LOved it!!!! In the mean time my husband was at home alone with the boys. :)
The guy with the skid stir showed up 10 minutes after I had left the house. Now...yes I did know he was coming and after asking my husband if he wanted me to stay, NO. I left. The boys, and yes that includes their father, had so much fun watching the man make a flat spot on our very steep hill. It really didn't matter if I was there or not.
We are now the proud owners of a trapoline...but I think that the boys had more fun in the mud and dirt. SO after a long day playing in the dirt and building a trampoline, that I can say I had nothing to do with as I was watching Russell Crowe, the boys are set for the summer!! Thanks Grandma!

With the school year coming to an end and Summer vacation creeping up really fast I have let a few things slid! Sorry! But I have had a little time to looks at some great shops! I can smell then already, to bad computer screens aren't scratch and sniff!!

When I saw this elephant I knew this was my Wonderful Wednesday shop, he is SOOO cute!Dino is really cute to! My youngest thought he was great!

I am love'n this bird, but there are many more cool animals in her shop! Please go by and check it out and imagine the great apple smells wafting from the computer!

Lindsey also has a great blog, http://www.preciousknitsshop.com/

Back

As many of you know my boys are on Spring Break this week. My husband decided that this would be a perfect time to take a trip, no problem I love vacation. He wanted our boys to spend some time with their Great Grandparents so we packed and headed to Michigan. The trip took 10 hours with many bathroom breaks. I am not a big fan of the road trip....all I have to say is thank you for the portable DVD player. It must have been invented by a Mother! The weather was beautiful, a secret fear I had that we would be stuck inside with the proverbial "I'm bored" being said every 5 minutes. Thank goodness for the sun and Great Grandmas great big yard! Oh and she has a mole problem so that was great fun to dig up the mounds! Captured some great shots of a 91 year old Great GrandDad playing soccer with a 7 year old, my favorite moment.
We spent a whole day at the Detroit Zoo, great zoo. I got great pictures that I will try to download tonight.
I hope that everyone else had a great Spring Break or is getting ready for one!
